What is the most efficient way to get bait in Terraria? ›

Flower Boots are an excellent means to farm bait. They work on all types of grass whose plants are suitable for spawning critters – regular, Jungle, and Hallowed. A highly effective method is to stand in one spot while wearing the Flower Boots and repeatedly destroy the flowers beneath the player.

You grab the quest fish and stash it in a chest or piggybank. Keep fish the quest fish and then hand in the quest, log out, log in a new character, grab a fish and hand in the quest. The only limit of how many characters can hand in the same quest depends on how good you are at fishing.

For the absolute best fishing loadout, equip either the Glowing Fishing Bobber or the Fishing Bobber (obtained by the angler), the Lavaproof Tackle Bag, the Angler Tackle Bag, and the Angler Earring for the highest base fishing power, ignoring time and weather conditions.

Tiles falling outside the originally calculated surface width are not counted (red areas). 75 connected tiles of liquid are required (1,001 for Oceans, 50 for honey) in order for fishing to work, and 300 or more tiles to be optimal (1,001 for Oceans, 200 for honey).

Fishing is also required to fight the boss Duke Fishron. For pre-Hardmode players, fishing can be a good way of obtaining money and equipment; by mid-Hardmode, it is less competitive with other money-making options, enemy drops, and advancing equipment.

The Golden Fishing Rod is the best rod in the game with a Fishing Power of 50 percent. It's also the most frustrating rod to get your hands on. Essentially, you get this rod as an Angler reward after exactly 30 completed quests, which is time-consuming in and of itself.

Worms also have a chance to spawn when the player breaks grass or stone or dirt piles, which causes them to fly out. Breaking larger rocks in the background has a high possibility of releasing worms. Worms can also be easily obtained by opening a Can Of Worms.

The Golden Bug Net is the only way to catch Underworld critters without mining Hellstone. The Golden Bug Net makes acquiring bait easier, as some bait critters have a chance to spawn from destroying tall grass and flowers, which can then be caught without the need to switch items.

Luck can be boosted with the use of buff potions, torch placement, and some other factors. You can touch a ladybug to improve your luck marginally. Biome-specific torches will increase luck, like using an Ice Torch in the Snow Biome, or a Cursed Torch in the Corruption biome.
